Manufacturing Excellence

Each Factory is different...

Although there are of courses similarities, first understand the major influences.  Asset intense businesses need to run at or close to 24×7, and Reliable Maintenance (TPM) will be high up the agenda.   If asset cost (or depreciation) to direct labour ratio is low, as expected in Food, FMCG, or textile manufacture, then it is more likely that a 24×5 or 16×5 strategy is right – which comes with a higher risk appetite for one-off failures.

Are raw-materials a significant part of your product cost?  If so, beware of taking off the shelf-approaches from automotive where raw material cost is not a significant factor, and don’t forget about giveaway!  There are lots of great tools out there, which have worked for other people – but it makes sense to first step back and work out what is right for you.

Choosing the right know-how makes a difference to what results.  When it comes to implementing improvement programmes, work with us, and you get true Practitioners.  Our Practitioners have all managed a factory, or a significant part of one, and have a track record of success from within business before joining LI Europe. They have then gone though an extensive training process to make them experts in their chosen specialism of improvement.  They will then work with you – training, getting involved in meetings, and on the shop floor in the way only true operational professionals can.

There are many parts to a Manufacturing Excellence journey: Have a look at some of the different sections:

1. Diagnostic

Detailed onsite survey of the opportunity and the right approaches to improve.
Are you building the right improvement plan? Going after all you could – or concerned there’s a big prize being missed?  Valuation of the opportunities enables you to make the right decisions on where to focus improvement activity.  Maybe you know your losses, but do you have the right systems/behaviours in place to sustain improvement?  The Diagnostic shows your site’s current operational maturity, and outlines the right improvement model for your business. Read more…
