BOTTLENECK ANALYSIS

Line performance causing problems?

Eli Goldratt described CONSTRAINT THEORY in his book "The Goal" - but it's often been missed from Lean and Six Sigma approaches.

An understanding of the principles is necessary to get Line Balancing correct - to find your V-Curve, your Bottleneck Processes, and optimise the Line Control.

Bottleneck Analysis and Optimising Line control can make a rapid difference - every factory should be able to take advantage of the principles!

Bottleneck Analysis

Which Process is your Capacity Bottleneck  – the process that fundamentally limits your Capacity?

Which Process is your Throughput Bottleneck  – the process that fundamentally limits your Actual Output?

Is Accumulation upstream full and downstream empty?  What even is Accumulation?

Have you updated your Capacity Profiles recently, and have your bottlenecks moved?

If you can’t answer any of these questions, then it might be worth looking into Bottleneck Analysis a lot more closely!
